Part XII — Quantum Computer Engineering

Everything so far treated the quantum computer as an ideal machine. It is not, and the discipline of turning elegant circuits into instructions that survive real hardware is quantum computer engineering — compiler construction, scheduling, and optimization over a substrate with constraints no classical compiler has ever faced. This part is the natural home for a software engineer: the tools are the ones you already own (parsing, IRs, graph algorithms, cost functions, test suites), applied to the most interesting target architecture in computing. It ends with the part's defining project: your own toy quantum compiler.
